The Dick Smith Auckland Nines was the pre-season showpiece that brought NRL to Eden Park, and Melbourne Storm were always a force in the nines format. Cameron Smith and Billy Slater headlined a squad built for the short-form game.
A great piece from a tournament that's now part of NRL history. The Nines ran from 2014 to 2017 and produced some of the most entertaining rugby league of the era.
