Gloucester were building something special in the late 1990s as English rugby's professional era took shape. The Baan-sponsored Cherry and Whites were competing hard in the Allied Dunbar Premiership, playing out of the famous Kingsholm ground.
This was the era when Richard Hill and Phil Vickery were making their names at the club. Vickery in particular was emerging as one of the most destructive tighthead props in Europe, earning his first England caps and setting the stage for World Cup glory down the line.
