Description:

Founded in 1861, Richmond Football Club is one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world and a founding member of the Rugby Football Union. Known for their bold red, gold, and black hoops, Richmond has a deep history in English rugby, producing numerous internationals and playing a central role in shaping the modern game.

The 1990s were a transformative era for the club. Richmond were one of the first fully professional rugby union teams in England, signing high-profile internationals and competing at the top level of the Premiership. Though the professional venture ultimately led to financial collapse in 1999, the club re-formed in the amateur leagues and fought their way back up the English rugby pyramid.

Today, Richmond remain based at the historic Athletic Ground in southwest London, with thriving men’s, women’s, and youth sections. Wearing a Richmond jersey is wearing a piece of rugby history — a nod to one of the sport’s true pioneers and a club whose colours have been charging down pitches for over 160 years.
