The 2009 British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa was one of the most bruising in modern memory. Ian McGeechan's squad pushed the Springboks all the way in a 2-1 series defeat, with the second test victory in Pretoria one of the great Lions performances.
Shane Williams, Brian O'Driscoll, and Tommy Bowe were among the standout backs, while the forwards battled valiantly against a fearsome Bok pack led by Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha. A tour remembered for its physicality and the narrowest of margins.
